Author Breakthrough Intensives

Three hours to explore the block that won’t budge

You know how to write a book. You may even know exactly what needs to happen next.

But whenever you sit down to write, something pulls you away. You freeze, second-guess every word, rewrite the same chapter, or avoid the manuscript altogether.

The Author Breakthrough Intensive is a three-hour, Brainspotting-informed coaching experience for romance writers who suspect their block goes deeper than craft.

You’ve Tried to Push Through

You’ve changed your routine.

You’ve tried sprints, deadlines, accountability partners, plotting systems, and productivity tools.

Maybe you’ve taken a break, started a different book, or told yourself you simply need more discipline.

But something still isn’t moving.

Sometimes a block isn’t a problem to solve. Sometimes it’s protection—a part of you responding to fear, pressure, criticism, grief, burnout, or something else your creative mind has learned to avoid.

That’s where the Author Breakthrough Intensive comes in.

What Is an Author Breakthrough Intensive?

An Author Breakthrough Intensive is a three-hour session designed to give us uninterrupted time to explore what may be holding your creativity back.

Rather than analyzing your plot or telling you what to write, we’ll slow down and listen to the part of you that’s struggling to move forward.

Using Brainspotting and Parts Work, we’ll explore the thoughts, emotions, physical responses, and protective patterns connected to the block.

The goal isn’t to force the block out of your way. It’s to help the protective part of you recognize that it may not need to work quite so hard anymore.

Why Three Hours?

A standard session can end just as you begin reaching the deeper layer of a block.

A three-hour intensive gives you time to:

  • Settle into the session without rushing
  • Identify the specific block you want to explore
  • Follow what emerges without watching the clock
  • Take breaks whenever you need them
  • Integrate what you noticed
  • Consider a gentle next step back toward your writing

This doesn’t mean three straight hours of talking or intense emotional work. The pace is collaborative, flexible, and guided by what feels manageable for you.

What Can We Explore?

Your block may be connected to:

  • Burnout or creative exhaustion
  • Imposter syndrome and self-doubt
  • Fear of failure—or fear of success
  • Difficult reviews, rejection, or criticism
  • Visibility and being seen by readers
  • Perfectionism and pressure to perform
  • Money fears connected to publishing
  • Grief, divorce, or a major life transition
  • Losing confidence after a difficult release
  • Returning to writing after a long absence
  • Feeling disconnected from your voice or creativity

Some blocks really are about craft, time, ADHD, or an overloaded schedule. This intensive is for the ones that feel more like fear, shame, resistance, or freeze.

What This Intensive Is & Isn’t

What This Is

This is personal and creative coaching for the emotional and protective patterns affecting your writing.

What This Isn’t

  • Plotting or story-development coaching
  • Developmental editing or manuscript feedback
  • Productivity coaching
  • Psychotherapy or counseling
  • Treatment for trauma or a mental health condition

I won’t tell you how to fix your book. We’ll focus on what may be making it difficult for you to access your own ideas, trust your voice, and return to the work.

How Brainspotting Supports the Process

Brainspotting is a focused approach based on the idea that where you look can affect how you feel.

During the session, I may invite you to notice where your eyes naturally want to rest while you remain aware of the thoughts, feelings, or physical sensations connected to your block.

You remain in control throughout the process. You don’t have to explain every detail, uncover a dramatic memory, or arrive with a perfect understanding of why you’re stuck.

Sometimes your mind doesn’t have the words for what’s getting in the way. Brainspotting gives us another way to listen.

How Parts Work Supports the Process

Parts Work helps us approach the block with curiosity instead of judgment.

The part that procrastinates, overthinks, or avoids the manuscript may not be trying to ruin your career. It may be attempting to protect you from disappointment, exposure, criticism, pressure, or pain.

Instead of fighting that part, we’ll work to understand what it believes could happen if you began writing freely again.

When protection no longer has to shout quite so loudly, creativity may have more room to return.

What to Expect During Your Intensive

Clarify the Block

We’ll begin by identifying the specific block, fear, or creative pattern you want to explore.

Follow What’s Beneath It

Using Brainspotting and Parts Work, we’ll pay attention to what happens internally when you connect with the block.

Work at Your Pace

You can pause, take a break, change direction, or stop the process at any time. You remain in charge of the session.

Create a Bridge Back to Writing

We’ll close by reflecting on what shifted and identifying a small, supportive next step toward your writing.

This May Be for You If…

  • You used to love writing, but now opening your manuscript fills you with dread
  • You understand your block intellectually but still can’t move through it
  • A difficult review or release changed the way you write
  • Grief, burnout, or a life change has affected your ability to create
  • You keep abandoning projects when they begin to feel vulnerable
  • You’re afraid your success was temporary and you won’t be able to repeat it
  • You’ve tried productivity and craft solutions, but the block remains
  • You want focused support without committing to ongoing weekly coaching

You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what’s wrong. “I don’t know why I can’t write anymore” is enough of a place to begin.

I Know What It’s Like to Lose Writing

Before my divorce, I was earning four figures a month from my romance writing. Afterward, there were months when I was fortunate to earn low two figures.

It was hard to write about love while my own relationship was ending. That block stayed with me for years.

Discovering Brainspotting changed the way I understood what had happened to my creativity. I created this offering because I wished something like it had existed when I was the writer staring at the page, grieving what I’d lost, and wondering whether the words would ever return.

Scheduling and Investment

Author Breakthrough Intensives are three-hour virtual coaching sessions.

Current pricing, availability, and booking information can be found on the scheduling page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know why I’m blocked?

No. You don’t need a clear explanation or perfectly defined goal. We can begin with what happens when you try to write and follow the process from there.

Will I have to discuss painful experiences in detail?

No. Brainspotting doesn’t require you to recount every detail of an experience. You decide what you share, and you remain in control throughout the session.

Can I book an intensive if I already work with a therapist?

Possibly. Coaching and therapy must remain separate, with the intensive focused specifically on your creative life. If you’re currently struggling with significant mental health symptoms or need to process trauma, your licensed therapist is the appropriate person to support that work.

How many intensives will I need?

An intensive can stand alone. Some writers may choose additional sessions to explore different layers or blocks, but there’s no predetermined number and no guaranteed outcome.

Do virtual intensives work?

Yes. Brainspotting-informed coaching can be offered virtually, allowing you to participate from a private, comfortable space.

Is this only for published authors?

No. You may be drafting your first novel, rebuilding after years away, or navigating the pressures of an established publishing career. What matters is that writing is meaningful to you and the block feels difficult to move through alone.

Is this therapy?

No. The Author Breakthrough Intensive is personal and creative coaching. It isn’t psychotherapy, counseling, medical treatment, or a substitute for care from a licensed mental health professional. It doesn’t diagnose or treat mental health conditions.

Your Creativity May Not Be Gone

It may simply be waiting for something inside you to feel differently.

If you’re ready to stop fighting the block and begin listening to what it’s been trying to protect, the Author Breakthrough Intensive may be your next step.

Sparks & Swoons Coaching provides personal and creative coaching. It is not psychotherapy, counseling, or a substitute for care from a licensed mental health professional.
